Fine Arts / Overview

"The Christian is the one whose imagination should fly beyond the stars."  Francis A. Schaeffer

"The beautiful is not the product of our own fantasy, nor of our subjective perception, but has an objective existence, being itself the expression of a Divine perfection."  Abraham Kuyper

"For as God is infinitely the greatest Being,so he is allowed to be infinitely the most beautiful and excellent: and all the beauty to be found throughout the whole creation, is but the reflection of the diffused beams of that Being who hath an infinite fullness of brightness and glory; God...is the foundation and fountain of all being and beauty."   Jonathan Edwards

The arts afford us the blessed occasion to express the beauty and imaginative power of our Creator God. Our students are encouraged to discover and develop the creative expression of God within them through a diverse range of art forms. The arts are a means to truth and a celebration of the Lord's great gifting of man. He has made music a balm to the soul, given color and design for the eye's unspoken engagement, and while the actor seeks the complete revelation of our universal need, the writer draws nearer still to the act of creation itself.

PRESCRIPTION

A heavy heart invades the soul
And crafts a faltering step,
It opens mindless fissures where
Uncertainties are kept.

But such an illness can be cured
With ne'er a doctor's skill
A kindly word, encouragement,
Heals like a miracle.

As anxiousness will weigh one down,
Encouragement lifts up.
As fear and sorrow desiccate
Kind words will fill a cup.

Greet friends with genuine delight
Applaud their efforts all,
Acknowledge labor, recognize
Their victories, great and small.

Take time to listen, and to hear
When someone needs to talk,
Be cognizant of words unsaid,
Let Love direct your walk.

More soothing than the sweetest balm,
A potion heaven-sent,
To heal unspoken inner hurts,
Apply encouragement.
