Briarwood Christian School students were chosen to design and paint one of the four murals featured in Birmingham by the World Games Committee. The 2022 World Games Mural will be featured at the Oak Mountain State Park fountain where the Water Sporting events will be held.
The design of the World Games Mural reflects the coming together of all the world in the spirit of competition. Each sport included in the World Games is to be represented through icon imagery placed on colorful tiles. The theme “It’s the Right Time to Love One Another” is embodied by the movement of the tiles “floating” in the water towards the center of the fountain in harmony. This design is intended to provide a visual representation of Oak Mountain Lake, in which the Water Sports events will take place.
Kathy Boswell, who serves as the Vice President of Community Engagement for the World Games and has more than 20 years of experience in community relations, will be overseeing the city murals. Kathy came out to be with our students and to encourage them about the lasting impact this piece would have on our community.
Students spent time in prayer over each section of the fountain that they were responsible for. Our hope is that the playfulness of the mural will engage an atmosphere of community and activity for spectators and will leave lasting memories for those who experience it.
We are honored to have been selected and pray that this will be a blessing to our city.
