Briarwood Christian School Appoints Charlie Ann Shepard as Director of Development
Briarwood Christian School is pleased to announce the appointment of Charlie Ann Shepard as Director of Development, effective June 8th, 2026. Shepard joins Briarwood with significant experience in nonprofit development, community engagement, and relationship management. Most recently, she served as Coordinator of Community Development for Children’s of Alabama, where she managed corporate partnerships, supported fundraising initiatives, developed community engagement strategies, and led programs connecting patient families and community supporters to the hospital’s mission.
“One of the things that stood out to me about Charlie Ann is her love for people,” said Mr. Gus Martin, Superintendent of Briarwood Christian School. “Whether serving families directly or building partnerships that support an organization’s mission, she brings warmth, authenticity, and a servant’s heart to her work. Those qualities reflect who we are at Briarwood. We are grateful to welcome her to our community and confident that she will help cultivate the relationships and support that enable our students and families to thrive.”
Prior to her work in development, Shepard served as a Child Life Specialist at Children’s of Alabama, providing support and advocacy for pediatric patients and their families during hospitalization and medical treatment. Her experience in both direct service and development has equipped her with a unique understanding of relationship-building, compassionate leadership, and mission-driven stewardship. She holds a Master of Science in Parent and Family Life Education and a Bachelor of Science in Child Life and Early Childhood Education from The University of Alabama.

Together, we can continue investing in the mission of Briarwood and the students and families we are called to serve.”
As Director of Development, Shepard will lead efforts to strengthen philanthropic support for Briarwood Christian School, cultivate relationships with alumni, parents, donors, and community partners, and advance initiatives that support the school’s mission of providing a Christ-centered, academically excellent education. Her passion for serving families and building meaningful connections will help further Briarwood’s commitment to preparing students to glorify God and impact the world for Christ.
