Briarwood Christian School Names Bella Furgason Head Softball Coach

Briarwood Christian School is pleased to announce the hiring of Bella Furgason as the new Head Coach of the Briarwood Christian School softball program.

Furgason comes to Briarwood after serving as an assistant coach at Samford University, where she has been a member of the Bulldogs’ coaching staff since 2024. During her time at Samford, Furgason has helped develop players on both the offensive and defensive sides of the game while assisting with practice planning, player evaluation, team operations, and travel logistics.

“We are excited to welcome Bella to Briarwood and have her lead our softball program,” said Briarwood Christian School Athletics Director Sara Wilson. “Throughout the hiring process, Bella’s passion for developing young women and building a championship-level culture stood out. She understands that success is about much more than what happens on the field. Her commitment to leadership, accountability, relationships, and excellence aligns extremely well with what we want our athletic programs to represent at Briarwood. We believe she will be an outstanding leader for our student-athletes and are excited about the future of Briarwood Softball.”

Before beginning her coaching career, Furgason enjoyed a successful collegiate playing career at Birmingham-Southern College and Coastal Alabama Community College. She served as a team captain at both institutions and earned First Team All-Conference honors at Birmingham-Southern in 2024. During her time at Coastal Alabama, she was named First Team All-South and Second Team All-Region in 2022.

Furgason graduated from Birmingham-Southern in 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a joint concentration in Leadership Studies. She was also a member of the Charles B. Vail College Fellows Program and Sigma Alpha Alpha. Prior to Birmingham-Southern, she earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Coastal Alabama Community College.

Furgason’s coaching philosophy centers on creating a positive, competitive culture that challenges student-athletes to pursue excellence while developing as leaders. She emphasizes accountability, leadership, individual player development, and creating a championship mindset both on and off the field.

“I am incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead the softball program at Briarwood Christian School,” said Furgason. “I look forward to building relationships with our student-athletes and families and creating a culture where our players are challenged to compete at a high level, grow as leaders, and pursue excellence in everything they do. I am excited to get to work and proud to be a Lion.”

Furgason will begin her duties immediately as the Lions prepare for the upcoming softball season.
