Briarwood Names Richardson to Lead Varsity Dance Program

Following her recent graduation from Auburn University with a degree in Exercise Science and Psychology, Kate Richardson is coming home to Birmingham this fall to take over the High School Dance program at Briarwood Christian School.

“I am in awe of the Lord for this amazing opportunity given to me by Him,” remarked Richardson. “This is a door that only He could have opened for me, and I could not be more passionate, excited, and expectant for the future of this program. I cannot wait to use the gifts and determination that the Lord has given me to impact others, share joy with the people around me, and grow the future of these dancers and the program at Briarwood Christian School.”

A lifelong dancer, Richardson brings a wealth of dance experience with her to Briarwood. A 2020 graduate of Vestavia Hills High School, she was a four-year member and co-captain of the Rebelettes Dance Team where her team won the 2020 NDA National Championship, which was their first in program history. She then went on to Auburn, where she served four years as a member of the Tiger Paws Dance Team and earned the “Spirit of Auburn” award her senior year. Furthermore, she danced locally at the Jackie O’Neal School of Dance for 13 years.

I am so excited to add Kate to our staff, and I think she is going to do amazing things for our dance program,” remarked Sara Wilson, Director of Athletics for Women’s Sports at Briarwood. “Our dancers are going to love working with her because she has a magnetic personality, the most joyful spirit, and a true heart for leading others to the Lord. She has performed with some of the most reputable programs in the state at Vestavia and Auburn, so the lessons she has learned over the past eight years will help her shape her view of how to run her program now. She has big plans to grow the Lionettes program, and I am ready to watch her work and help her find success any way I can.”

In addition to serving as Briarwood’s next dance coach, Richardson will be attending Highlands College in pursuit of a degree in Pastoral Ministry. She also currently serves as a Leadership Intern at Church of the Highlands and she is a member of the worship leadership team.
