Nicki Henley Named Head Varsity Coach for Briarwood Softball

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Briarwood Christian School is proud to announce the hiring of Nicki Henley as the new Head Coach of the Varsity Softball program. A standout former collegiate athlete and respected instructor, Henley brings a wealth of experience, passion, and leadership to the Lions’ softball program.

“We are very pleased and excited to have Coach Henley joining the Briarwood community,” remarked Briarwood Athletics Director Sara Wilson. “She has an extensive background in playing, coaching, and training athletes of all ages. With the young talent we have coming up through our program, I’m excited to see her continue to develop their talent and move it in a positive direction.”

Henley, a two-time State of Alabama Softball Player of the Year who graduated from Robertsdale High School, went on to play for four years at the University of Alabama, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. With over 15 years of experience giving private instruction across the state, Henley has dedicated her career to helping young athletes develop solid fundamentals, confidence, and a love for the game.

Known for her deep understanding of pitching mechanics and her ability to connect with players of all skill levels, Henley has become a trusted mentor within the Alabama softball community. Her coaching philosophy focuses on both personal and athletic growth, ensuring that each player is supported in her development on and off the field.

“Getting the opportunity to work for Briarwood Softball is such a great opportunity, and I am looking forward to coaching these girls,” said Henley. “My goal is to make every single girl on the team better than she was the first day we get on the field.”

Henley lives in Chelsea, Alabama, with her husband, Lyle, Assistant Head Football Coach at UAB, and their two children, Gage and Jocie. She remains actively involved in youth sports and continues to invest in the next generation of student-athletes through both education and athletics.

Briarwood Christian School is excited to welcome Coach Henley and looks forward to the future of the softball program under her leadership.
