Our desire is for every family who desires a Christian education for their family and qualifies for the CHOOSE Act tax credit to benefit from the CHOOSE Act tax credit legislation.

If you have friends, relatives, or neighbors who may qualify and have an interest in Christian education for their children, ask them to apply for the CHOOSE credit and then contact the School admissions office. They only need you to list Briarwood Christian School as their participating school at this time.

The CHOOSE Act will give priority to the families who are furthest below the 300% of poverty level ceiling and awards will continue to progress accordingly until all families at or below the ceiling have been served or the funding is exhausted, whichever comes first. Because of the demand, it is possible that some applicants whose family income falls below the ceiling may not receive the tax credit for the coming year unless the legislature appropriates additional funding. The opportunity for additional CHOOSE funding is possible if the demand is great enough.

An overwhelming response by Alabama families could prompt the legislature to approve additional funding for the 2025-26 academic year. In addition, there will be a call to increase funding beyond the $100 million floor in the future when the income restriction is eliminated (2027-28).

DETAILS TO DATE: As of Monday, March 17, more than 15,000 families have applied for the CHOOSE Act credit on behalf of 25,298 total students. This is great news for the prospects of growing the program’s funding in the future!

Some who have applied for the CHOOSE tax credit may have divided the $100 million appropriated by the Alabama legislature for the 2025-26 academic year into a $7,000/yr ESA and concluded there will be 14,285 students receiving an ESA for the coming year. However, homeschooled students are limited to a $2,000 ESA credit that caps at $4,000 per family. To date, homeschool students comprise more than 20% of the total applicants, and nearly 10% of total student applicants failed to qualify.
