The Briarwood Christian School Band Department exists to provide a Christ-centered, transformational music education that equips and inspires each student to glorify God by maximizing their God-given abilities through performance in band. Our Vision is to develop leaders who impact the world by glorifying Christ in every sphere of life, including the music classroom and performance stage.
The Briarwood Christian School Wind Ensemble is the premier performing ensemble at BCS. The band performs masterworks from the band repertoire. The band has consistently earned Superior Ratings in festival and contest performance and is a past performer at the Alabama Music Educators Association annual convention.
The 7th & 8th grade Concert Band is our developing musical ensemble building upon the musical foundations established in the Lower School Cadet Band. The ensemble regularly receives superior ratings at festivals.
The 5th & 6th grade Cadet Band is our entry-level ensemble within the BCS band program. Students are introduced to the band instruments and musical foundations are laid for future growth and enjoyment as music-makers.
The Marching Lions is an integral part of the BCS band program. With performances across the nation, the Marching Lions have eagerly served as ambassadors for Christ and BCS. The band competes locally where they consistently earn straight superior ratings in every caption. Friday nights at Briarwood are an important part of the high school experience, and the Marching Lions are a big part of making them so special. They perform for a supportive group of students and fans as they create an atmosphere that inspires and brings joy and excitement through the music they make and interpret.
The Jazz Ambassadors take America’s music, jazz, to our school and community at-large. An auditioned ensemble made of some of the finest musicians in BCS, this group meets after school and performs regular as part of school and community events.
The Lion Guard is an integral part of the marching band and music program. During football season, the color guard is an important part of the marching design, color palette, and musical interpretation of the show. By using flags, sabers, rifles, swing flags, and other pieces of equipment pertaining to the music, as well as a mix of ballet, jazz, modern, and contemporary modern dance, the color guard interprets the music into a stunning visual element within the fall field show. The Lion Guard demands self-control and teamwork while producing a musical art form for the aesthetic enjoyment of the audience and the glory of God.
